"Your Safety is not Guaranteed, brings together the physical explorations of Ash Wilson’s research into landscape theory, community resilience, and climate anxiety while studying at the University of Victoria. Tactile and materially humble, her sculptures––made from paper clay, natural pigments, and found debris––propose an honest and critical reflection of her environment. Interested in how common psychological responses to fear and pervasive cultural myths affect how we shape our spaces and treat our land, and how we move through it."
About The Artist:
"Ash Wilson (1991, Canada) is a mixed-media artist residing on the unceded land of the ləḱʷəŋən People, Victoria, BC.
Ash’s practice blends critical theory with hands-on experimentation, embracing complexity, entanglement, and play as a resistance against binary and reductive thinking, and myths of ideological purity.
She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction in Visual Arts Honours (2026) from the University of Victoria, along with a Diploma in Visual Arts (2014) and Arts and Science (2013) from Camosun College, Victoria. She will begin a Master of Fine Arts at the Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) in London, England in fall 2026."
