Message from the artist:
As an artist focused on oil paintings, I see objects not just as everyday items but as carriers of deep meaning and personal history. My artistic journey is focused on my fascination with the narratives objects hold, extending beyond their static boundaries. I am captivated by the enduring nature of objects, bound by their own stillness; each object becomes a silent witness to the passage of time. I aim to create art that serves as a gateway for viewers to explore, contemplate, and rediscover the objects in their lives.
"In Company" is a series of oil paintings that explore identity through reflective objects. Inspired by my enduring fascination with reflective surfaces, this series delves deeper into the nuanced meanings each object holds in relation to my identity. Through it, I unearth the diverse facets of self: discovered, inherited, or repressed within the subconscious. Each piece is both a conceptual and literal self-portrait, utilizing objects as conduits to navigate themes of childhood, family, fear, and love. By intertwining personal associations with the fetishized magnetism of these objects, "In Company" becomes a visual narrative, inviting viewers to contemplate their own identity within layers of reflection.
MoCL September Gallery Hours: Thursdays, 5-8PM & Saturdays, 1-4PM. “In Company” runs until September 28th.
Address: 750 Fairfield Rd.
Cost: Free/By Donation.
Wheelchair accessible through East Entrance.
